There are not many walks along the Spree in Berlin. A particularly pleasant one leads to the end of the Stralau peninsula. It offers a view over the offshore love island, the Kratzbruch and the bank of the Plänterwald. Opposite Treptower Park, the path goes into the cemetery of the Stralau village church which offers a pleasant stopover with its benches facing the Spree. The church, which was badly damaged in the War and restored at a later date, is renowned for the only remaining late gothic stained glass in Berlin. In the summer, if you are lucky, you can find the church open on Sundays between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. Throughout the year, the church is also open on the first and third Sunday of the month for services (10.00 a.m.-11.00a.m.) and on the fourth Sunday for a concert (from 5.00 p.m.) On weekdays, you can ask the cemetery attendent to open the church. |
