The village green in Lübars is the only one of many examples in Berlin which actually lies in the heart of village activity. On the green lies an intimate settlement made up of a small baroque church dating from 1793, a fire-station, a schoolhouse with a lovely cottage garden and old oak, ash, chestnut and mulberry trees. Around it in a close circle are riding stables, old one-storey farms with classical stuccoed facades, the big old village inn and the “Labsaal”, a pleasant old guesthouse room which is used as a venue for events and public functions. It is worth investigating the programme here if you want to visit Lübars. To the North, beyond the horse paddocks, one can see down to the Tegeler Fliess, an ice-age draining channel which goes from the Barnim ridge to Tegeler See (lake Tegel). A stream flows in great loops through this valley which is enclosed by pleasant paths and is very popular among ornithologists. If you leave Lübars to the East, in the direction of Blankenfelde, you will reach a country road, lined by trees and fields. It has an overwhelming impact on the city dweller, hungry for landscape.
