The area around Chamissoplatz, between Bergmannstrasse, Friesenstrasse, Fidicinstrasse and Mehringdamm, has become a popular wine area. Its classical facades have been completely renovated, adding to the picture of cultured Kreuzberg 61. Passburg, like many other traders, was attracted to the large cool cellar-rooms of which there is no shortage in this area, once the home of various breweries. It is not the sort of wine shop which passing trade strays into by chance. The entrance, framed left and right by vats of wine only comes into view after entering a trade yard and continuing a further 50 metres past loading platforms and lorries. The wine offered in these low rooms with their lovely vaulted ceilings is mainly from Germany and the south of France. The wine-list is over 30 pages long. Four times a year, the owner invites his customers to a
wine-tasting. |
