The Würgeengel, a bar named after Louis Bunuel’s film, does not only have an unusual
name. The bar sign hangs from the fourth floor at 122 Dresdner Strasse and the entrance is shaded by a huge clump of knot
grass. This stems from an early programme to grow plants over the house
facades. Behind the counter, barmen in ties shake and stir the most wonderful
cocktails. The bar, with its red-plush furnishings and glass ceiling in 1950’s style is surprisingly true to the
period. Amongst the many varied bars around Oranienstrasse, it is a real original. With its well-connected name and
flair, the Würgeengel has earned its reputation amongst the cognoscenti as the ultimate
address. |
